PermaPai permaculture project began in December 2010 in Pai, Mae Hong Son province of northern Thailand. The project focused on converting 3.2 acres (1.3 ha, 8 rai) of chemical GMO monoculture into a polyculture food forest, organic rice fields with natural buildings interspersed. Now over half the property is a food forest, a quarter is organic rice fields and a quarter is a timber forest. There is an earthen roundhouse with integrated water management. The focus has shifted to taking measurements and samples to document the effects of changed land management practices on the natural environment.
